It's back to school time for most of us. That brings a lot of excitement
and also a lot of spending...New clothes, new shoes, new backpacks, school supplies, and lunch boxes.
All this new stuff can make a dent in the checking account and budget. Note: Your budget should have
an item for school expenses.
Here's some general back-to-school savings tips:
Don't buy non-food items at the supermarket.
Be on the watch for sales all year long. Buy on sale and pack away until next year.
If your children have school uniforms, participate in uniform resale events.
Leave the kids at home when you shop. I don't even need to explain that one!
Shop department stores like Wal-Mart
, Target, K-Mart, and Sears while they have back-to-school
special prices. These stores also carry school uniforms.
Use your school supply list and stick to it! Don't let your kids talk you into something they really don't meed.
Buy school clothing off final sale racks that your child can grow into, but be sure to stick to
basics that don't go out of style.
Recycle last year's supplies. School supplies from last year may still be useable. Don't buy something new unless necessary.
Shop discount stores like Dollar Tree. You can find big savings on not just school
supplies, but also socks, underware, and lunch box items.
Stay within your budget. You do have one don't you??
Leave the credit cards at home. If you budget for school supplies, you should have the cash you need. If you must
charge things, plan to pay before the next statement and think of it as cash.
If your kids want something "extra" or a name brand you are not willing to buy, let them pay the difference if they can.
